Faja Sizing by Body Type: Pear, Apple, Hourglass, Athletic
The standard size chart doesn't account for the shape of your body — only the measurements. Here's how to actually choose a faja size that flatters your specific build.

The standard faja size chart gives you ranges based on bust, waist, and hip measurements. What it doesn't tell you is whether your specific shape needs to size up or stay true to chart.
Two women with identical hip measurements can need completely different sizes — because one is a pear shape with narrow ribs and the other is athletic with broader shoulders. Here's how to actually choose right the first time.
First, the Universal Sizing Rule
For every Faja Colombiana, size by your largest measurement — usually hip or bust, whichever is larger. Then adjust from there based on your body shape (below).
Our size chart:
- S/M — hip 35-39", waist 25-29"
- L/XL — hip 40-44", waist 30-34"
- 1XL/2XL — hip 45-49", waist 35-39"
- 3XL/4XL — hip 50-54", waist 40-44"
For the complete sizing protocol, see our step-by-step measuring guide.
Pear Shape (Hips > Bust > Waist)
Your hips are clearly your largest measurement. Your bust is smaller, and your waist is the smallest of the three. Classic pear shape — and probably the easiest body type to size a faja for.
How to size:
- Size by your hip measurement, even if it puts you into the next size up
- The Full Body Faja with hook-and-eye closure will cinch the waist tighter because the hooks adjust independently of the hip section
- Don't size down to fit your waist — the hip compression won't close and the faja will roll up
Why Open-Bust may be better:
If you're a pear shape with a smaller bust, the built-in bra cup of the Full Body Faja can feel too loose on top. The Open-Bust Faja lets you wear your own correctly-fitted bra, which usually feels better on pear-shaped bodies.
Apple Shape (Bust > Waist, Hips Average)
Your weight tends to sit in the midsection — bust and ribcage often broader, waist less defined, hips proportionally smaller than the upper body. Apple shapes get the most dramatic results from a Faja Colombiana because the compression directly targets where you want it most.
How to size:
- Size by your bust or ribcage measurement, whichever is larger
- If you're between sizes, size up — apple shapes need room in the upper torso for comfortable breathing
- The hook-and-eye closure will let you cinch the waist 2-3 inches without restricting your ribcage
Best faja choice:
The Full Body Faja is ideal for apple shapes — full coverage through the entire torso with built-in bra support, and the compression panel covers the whole abdomen where you want sculpting most.
Hourglass Shape (Bust ≈ Hips, Defined Waist)
Your bust and hips are roughly equal, with a clearly smaller waist. You already have curves — the faja is just enhancing them and creating an even cleaner silhouette under tighter outfits.
How to size:
- Size by your bust or hip measurement, whichever is larger by a small margin
- Don't size down — even though your waist looks small enough for the smaller size, the bust and hips need room
- Hourglass shapes often need to start on the loosest hook row and tighten in over time
Best faja choice:
Either style works. Hourglass shapes have the easiest pairing because their natural shape already matches what the faja is engineered to produce.
Athletic / Rectangular Shape (Bust ≈ Waist ≈ Hips)
Broader shoulders, less waist definition, straighter line from bust to hips. Often muscular builds, dancers, former athletes, or naturally lean physiques.
How to size:
- Size by your bust or shoulder measurement — athletic shapes are often surprised by how much room their upper body needs
- If you're very athletic with broad shoulders, consider sizing up so the bust panel doesn't feel restrictive
- Athletic shapes get dramatic visual results from a faja because the compression creates waist definition that doesn't naturally exist
Best faja choice:
Full Body Faja with the built-in bra works well if you have a smaller bust. Open-Bust works if you prefer to use your own bra for additional lift or specific bra styles.
Plus-Size Considerations
Real sizing for plus-size bodies needs to account for the fact that compression at 3XL+ requires more powernet and structural support. Cheap fajas blow out at the side seams within weeks at larger sizes.
How to size:
- Always size by your largest measurement
- If you're right between sizes, size up — plus-size bodies need room for breathing comfortably under high compression
- Start on the loosest hook row for the first 5-7 wears, then tighten gradually as the fabric breaks in
Our fajas go up to 3XL/4XL (hips 50-54") using the same medical-grade construction at every size — same powernet, same hook-and-eye system, same zipper crotch.
The Universal "If In Doubt" Rule
If you're between two sizes regardless of body shape: size up, not down. The hook-and-eye closure gives you 2-3 inches of adjustment range on a larger size — but a smaller size that doesn't close at the hips is functionally useless. Size up, hook to your sweet spot, and tighten as the fabric breaks in.
One More Note on Comfort
Comfort with a Faja Colombiana takes 5-10 wears to reach. Day 1 will feel intense regardless of your body shape. By day 7 you'll forget it's on. By day 14 you'll miss it on days you don't wear it.
Don't base your sizing decision on day 1 sensations. Base it on the measurement chart + body type guidance above.
The Bottom Line
Body shape matters as much as measurement when sizing a faja. Use the chart for the starting size, use the body type guidance for the adjustment, and use the hook-and-eye closure for the fine-tuning. Get those three right and the faja will fit perfectly the first time.
